Miskolctapolca Cave Bath

As you well know, Hungary is famous for it’s baths. The Cave Bath of Miskolctapolca is a unique spa and treatment complex in all of Europe. I had the luck of visiting in October of 2008, and I left with great memories and a promise to myself that I would return one day. The beneficial effects of this spring and bath have been in use for over 4 centuries and the complex itself is improving continuously to keep up with modern day requirements.

With more than 12 in-and outdoor swimming pools (one more different and distinctive than the other), from thermal waters to treatments involving salt, and all types of saunas, the bath has it all in a very special scenery.

I was with my classmates and I remember we had a lot of fun. Hungarian people really know how to make the most of things, and by having a lot of imagination they have certainly created a high-class bath complex that attracts tourists from all over the world. In case you are wondering how much the entrance fee is, you can check it out here. (if you scroll down, you can find it in English too).

We mostly enjoyed getting on a “wave carousel”, which consisted of letting ourselves go, and getting stuck in a whirlpool among the walls of the cave. It was awesome!

Another thing I remember that we really liked was the Star Chamber, which had a very relaxed ambiance, with “stars” above our heads and some relaxing chill out music. Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of it, but be sure to check it out once you’re there! Which reminds me, for those of you who can’t decide on whether to go or not out of my pictures, check out this catalog, which has much better photos than we made. We were there for a short time, therefor trying to make the most of it, so we forgot to take photos of everything.

Although it was a sunny day, it was still the end of October with chilly breezes, but they still let us outside to swim in the outdoor pools. The water was hot, but the air wasn’t so it was a comfortable combination for us as we went for a swim. I thought that these pools were arranged beautifully and had a lovely and inviting atmosphere. You almost forgot about the cold air.
